Eastover Gains State Recognition as a “Green Ribbon School” for Positive Behavior Program
November 4, 2016 — Eastover Elementary School gains recognition as a “Green Ribbon School” from the state of North Carolina for their 2015-16 participation in a student-focused program that supports and encourages positive behavior.
Across North Carolina, schools, including Eastover, implemented the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) program as an effective and proactive process for improving social competence and academic achievement for all students. The mission of this initiative is to provide leadership, professional development, resources and on-going support to promote positive student behavior.
After completing the first year of the program, Eastover applied for school recognition for their achievements in the areas of positive behavior intervention and support. The state of North Carolina reviewed the application and awarded Eastover the Green Ribbon Status, showing successful program implementation.
All PBIS schools applying for recognition are required to document an active PBIS team, administrator participation, an in-school coach, and submission of data requirements showing successful program outcomes. In addition, Green Ribbon schools have completed Module I team training and have begun PBIS implementation.
As a Green Ribbon School, Eastover achieved Level 1, year 1 implementation of PBIS by scoring at least 80 percent in the assessment for the 2015-16 school year.
On November 7th, Dr. Susan Nichols, Principal and Ms. Melanie Bender, Assistant Principal, and will represent Eastover at the North Carolina PBIS State Recognition Ceremony in Greensboro, NC.
Congratulations on this wonderful accomplishment!
