Eastover Students Are “Jazzed” about Music
Charlotte’s Jazz Arts Initiative Brings Interactive Performance to Students
March 2017 – Eastover students enjoyed an entertaining and educational performance with musicians from Charlotte’s Jazz Arts Initiative, while learning about the history of jazz in the United States. This interactive program was made possible through funds raised from this year’s Invest in Your Child campaign, which supports Eastover by providing enrichment opportunities for our students.
Mr. Robert Scotland, Eastover’s music teacher and choral director, helped host the Jazz Arts Initiative in Eastover’s auditorium, which introduced students to the different sounds and history of jazz music. The program featured a variety of vocal performances and musical instruments including saxophone, bass guitar, drums and electric key board.
“The jazz program was so much fun,” says one student who attended the performance. “We learned about all of the cool jazz instruments and the different sounds that they make. I’m really glad I could go and be a part of it.”
The Jazz Arts Initiative strives to develop an audience for jazz through quality education, performance and musician support. A nonprofit organization made up of educators, cultural arts patrons, musicians and individuals, the Jazz Arts Initiative is dedicated to the continued development of Charlotte’s arts heritage.
